Ash vs. Maple vs. Birch.

There are several differences between Ash, Birch, and Maple woods and bats. At T-Town Bat Co., we find it is more of a personal preference and the “feel” of the bat for most players. Some players like the feel of one vs. the other and players being comfortable at each at bat that is what matters most. If we were to get down to the difference in the make up of each wood, Maple is a harder, more dense wood than Ash and Birch. Maple grain will not split with continued use, while Ash begins to wear down after continued use. Ash is lighter and more flexible which some hitters prefer compared to the more rigid feel of Maple. As for Birch, it seems to be a middle of the road wood that is becoming more popular with pro players and others at all levels of play. Birch is harder than Ash, giving players that more traditional pop of Maple and making it a hardier bat than Ash, but is lighter than Maple giving it more flexibility.

Once you've decided on what wood you'd like your bat to be made of, it's on to size. Below is a chart that I know you'll find helpful on deciding the right size of T-Town bat you need.
